St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – As global jewelry supply chains continue to evolve, the Caribbean is emerging as the next frontier for manufacturing, distribution, and experiential retail. With duty-free status, direct U.S. ties, and its strategic location, the U.S. Virgin Islands is attracting increasing interest from international jewelers.
At the center of this shift is Cardow, a landmark jeweler on Main Street in Charlotte Amalie. The historic Cardow building, soon within the Enterprise Zone, is being positioned as an anchor destination for international jewelry brands. The initiative includes plans to sublease showroom space, introduce consignment opportunities, and attract global manufacturers to establish branch operations locally.
“The industry is looking for cost savings, tax efficiency, and new markets,” said Carolina de Lyrot, CEO of Cardow. “The U.S. Virgin Islands can offer all three. We want to make our building the flagship hub for international jewelers entering the U.S. market.”
With tourism rebounding and experiential retail gaining momentum, Cardow is simultaneously reimagining its sales floor as an interactive retail environment. Customers will be able to size and customize Virgin Islands hook bracelets, engrave watches, and witness jewelry-making demonstrations, blending tradition with modern consumer demand.
